Project Description

The Donora Head Start Daycare Center is a community centered daycare center owned by the Housing Authority of  Washington County. Tusick & Associates Architects was hired to design a one-story, 2000 sq ft. addition to an existing two-story daycare.  Our goal was to compliment the existing daycare center in materials used and style; so the addition blended with the existing building.  Similar color schemes, patterns, and shapes were used to emulate and compliment the existing daycare center.

The addition contains an early head start area with its own restrooms, and a head start area with its own restrooms.  Each area had a storage room and custom casework with a sink.  The addition has its own mechaical, electrical, and hot water supply. The project's budget was modified to accommodate the estimated cost by the architect with the owner’s approval. The cost changes accomodate all of the requirements set by the Owner.  The established probable  construction cost fell within the contractors’ bid  range.  Additionally, Tusick & Associates established a schdeule for design and construction that was met by us and the contractor. The project only had one Change Order due to the end user’s request.  The addition complies with all ADA and ANSI requirements for accessibility.  Ground broke in late December, 2010.
